Our history, our families, and the responsibility to carry their stories forward.
Obanye Nation is a proposed family-based organization dedicated to preserving ancestral records, connecting descendants, respecting elders, documenting historical communities, educating young generations, and investigating lawful recognition pathways.
The founding Welch and Quatsi (Vanny) lines remain central to our research, alongside proposed expanded ancestral family lines. The organizing families are researching and documenting connections through maternal and paternal branches, across surnames and generations.
Historical research note: The identification, relationships, and connections of the proposed founding ancestors and descendant branches must be supported and evaluated through genealogical research. A founding tradition is not by itself proof of every historical relationship.
Welch, Bruner, Bowlegs, Warrior, Perryman, Nikko/Mecco, Durant, Cudjo, Gainey, Romeo, Black Abraham descendants, and connected branches are among the subjects of our ongoing family-history research. Inclusion in research does not alone establish citizenship eligibility.
Research includes the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and other places connected to family migration, land, churches, cemeteries, and community life.
Documents, oral testimony, land and probate records, photographs, and optional genetic genealogy are cataloged with clear source and confidence labels.

Our proposed archive will organize the family's historical books, genealogies, deeds, cemetery and church records, oral histories, and community records. Living persons' information will not be published without appropriate permission.

Descendants can begin gathering family records and documenting their ancestral line. A private preliminary admissions portal is included and requires secure administrator setup before use. Do not email sensitive identity or DNA documents.
